The Cost of Salvation

The Incomparable Price of Grace

The grace you receive is a priceless gift, bestowed upon you by the Almighty. It is a divine offering that cost God everything – a sacrifice so great that words cannot do it justice. Cherish this gift, for it was given to you with the greatest of care and the deepest of love.

The Blood Covenant and Eternal Life

Matthew 26:28 CSB
"For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

John 6:53-54 CSB
"So Jesus said to them, 'Truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves. The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.'"

Purchased by His Blood

Acts 20:28-31 CSB
"Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which he purchased with his own blood. I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Men will rise up even from your own number and distort the truth to lure the disciples into following them. Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for three years I never stopped warning each one of you with tears."

1 Corinthians 6:20 CSB
"For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body."

God's Righteousness and Redemption

Romans 3:25-26 CSB
"God presented him as the mercy seat by his blood, through faith, to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. God presented him to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so that he would be just and justify the one who has faith in Jesus."

Ephesians 1:7-14 CSB
"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding. He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in Christ as a plan for the right time—to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth in him. In him we have also received an inheritance, because we were predestined according to the plan of the one who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of his will, so that we who had already put our hope in Christ might bring praise to his glory. In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory."

Hebrews 9:22,27-28 CSB
"According to the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. And just as it is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment— so also Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him."

Faith, Love, and the Triumph of the Lamb

1 Peter 1:8-13,18-19 CSB
"Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who prophesied about the grace that would come to you, searched and carefully investigated. They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified in advance to the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—angels long to catch a glimpse of these things. Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb."

Romans 5:6-10,15-21 CSB
"For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even the gift which comes through the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflowed to the many. And the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin, because the judgment, following one trespass, brought condemnation, but the gift, following many trespasses, brought justification. If, by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

So then, as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is justification leading to life for everyone. For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so also through the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. The law came along to multiply the trespass. But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness, resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Victory Through the Blood

Revelation 12:11 CSB
"And they conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; for they did not love their lives to the point of death."

Revelation 5:9-10 NLT
"And they sang a new song, saying, 'You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.'"

Conclusion

The price for God’s amazing grace was the highest imaginable. Therefore, it would be a grave mistake to set it aside in favor of your own self-righteousness. Such a choice ultimately amounts to rejecting Christ and the salvation that He offers you. Cherish the profound love demonstrated by Christ's sacrifice, and live in the fullness of the grace that He has so generously provided.
